Introduction

Story:

EPISODE 1: The Dark Dimension. A curse has fallen on the world of Ragnarok. Strong beasts and villains have started invading the population centers at night and world travel has become dangerous. Even the Royal Criatura Academy has been attacked, forcing relocation. The cities are helpless and the need for adventurers has never been more dire.
You have heard about the problems from your small village and have decided to do your part to fight this new threat. But your transport ship has wreaked near the coast of Rune Midgarts, leaving you stranded. Can you escape the island and make it to the mainland? Can you bring safety back to the common people?
Find out on Division RO!

Description:

Division RO is a (mid rate) Renewal-esque Private Ragnarok Online server for testing and educational purposes. It was fan translated from the Korean version and falls between Episode 16 & 17. The focus is on accessible 3rd Jobs, good PvE, and economic stability.

I try to keep the core kRO mechanics intact... while also mixing in some jRO mechanics and causal elements often expected of mid rate servers. Division RO is tuned to play more like an old DOS RPG (like Diablo 1). If you enjoy Division RO,
 share this page with friends!

*This server (and all its associated tools) are provided as-is, with no guarantees of any kind. I reserve the right to take it down or modify it as I see fit. However, 96.7% annual uptime (or higher) is my goal.

Server Rules:

This server follows the same general standards that every other good server follows, but I have simplified things down to 3 rules. By registering for Division RO, you agree to respect these rules.

  1. Heard of the Golden Rule? Follow it for everyone you encounter.
  2. Any 3rd party software or hacks that give unfair advantages are prohibited.
  3. Understand this is NOT an official server, do not expect it to play like one*.
*Read “Why NOT to play Division RO” for more information.

Registration:

I have created an automated registration page for Division RO! To register for the game, simply click “REGISTER HERE” below and fill out the form. It’s HIGHLY recommended that you remember your character name and password. Never share your login or password information. (it’s also recommended that you visit the registration website on a secure computer and use a strong password!)

Client Download:

Download Full Client here. A Windows PC or laptop is required (it will also run in WINE without much trouble if you use OS X or Linux). The client is 3.98 GB zipped and 4.39 GB unzipped. Once you have the client folder unzipped on your computer, do the following to get started:

  1. Run the Division_RO_Setup.exe* file and pick the highest resolution your monitor supports. Also, pick full screen if you want things to run as smooth as they can. (It’s safe to max out the settings on any modern PC.)
  2. Run the Division_RO_Client.exe* file to connect to the server and play! *You may get an “unknown publisher” warning, but just click yes.

If you have a slow internet connection, I also have a lite client available. But, it requires that you have the latest kRO data.grf and rdata.grf (01/25/2020 or newer). Here is how to install it:

  1. Download lite client here.
  2. Download BGM and skin folder (optional).
  3. Unzip lite client folder.
  4. Add data.grf and rdata.grf files to client folder.
  5. Add BGM and skin folder to client folder.

Curse of Night:

As part of Division RO’s Day and Night system, there are “Nightly MVP City Invasions”. Each night, in every city but Alberta, a MVP Boss will sneak into the city. When day comes, the bosses disappear and the cities are safe again. Since Izlude is the starting point for Novices, a non-aggressive MVP spawns there. Here are the combinations:

Prontera = Drake, Aldebaran = Hatii, Amatsu = Grand Pere, Ayothaya = Detardeurus, Brasilis = Ifrit, Comodo = Tao Gunka,  Dewata = Champion Chen, Einbech = RSX 0806, Einbroch = Gioia, El Dicastes = Evil Snake Lord, Geffen = Dracula, Gonryun = Dark Lord, Hugel = Dark Guardian Kades, Izlude = Golden Thief Bug, Jawaii = General Daehyun, Lasagna = Boitata, Lighthalzen = High Wizard Kathryne, Louyang = Gloom Under Night, Lutie = White Lady, Malangdo = Clown Alphoccio, Malaya = Kraken, Manuk = Doppelganger, Allied Forces Post = Atroce, Mora = Orc Hero, Morocc = Pharaoh, Moscovia = Gypsy Trentini, Nameless Island = Fallen Bishop, Niflheim = Baphomet, Payon = Eddga, Rachel = Assassin Cross Eremes, Splendide = High Priest Magaleta, Thor Volcano Camp = Gopinich, Umbala = Kraken, Veins = Thanatos, Yuno = Lord Knight Seyren, Rock Ridge = Time Holder

In addition, there are “Nightly Mini Boss Sieges”. They work exactly the same as the city MVPs, except they spawn in the connecting fields. Here are the  combinations:

pay_fild03 = Eclipse, prt_fild06 = Toad, prt_fild08 = Pouring, prt_fild01 = Mastering, prt_fild05 = Dragon Fly, mjolnir_12 = Mutant Dragon, yuno_fild01 = Deviling, ama_fild01 = Chimera, ayo_fild01 = Angeling, bra_fild01 = Cat o' Nine Tails, cmd_fild01 = Maya Purple, dew_fild01 = Archangeling, ecl_hub01 = Owl Marquis, ein_fild09 = Ghostring, ein_fild04 = Vagabond Wolf, ein_fild08 = Wild Rider, dic_fild01 = Owl Viscount, gef_fild00 = Giant Octopus, gef_fild04 = Dark Illusion, gef_fild07 = Naght Sieger, gon_fild01 = Dark Coelacanth, hu_fild06 = Grotesque Coelacanth, lasa_fild01 = Irene Elder, lasa_fild02 = Executioner, lhz_fild01 = Gryphon, lou_fild01 = Tirfing, xmas_fild01 = King Kray, ma_fild01 = Corrupted Soul, man_fild02 = Fei Kanabian, spl_fild02 = Swift Baroness of Retribution, man_fild01 = Hydro, bif_fild02 = Elusive Lady Solace, moc_fild07 = Mistress of Shelter, moc_fild19 = Tendrillion, moc_fild12 = Observation, nif_fild02 = Thanatos Dolor, pay_fild01 = Skeggiold, pay_fild08 = Byorgue, moc_fild02 = Dwigh, ra_fild12 = Elusive Kasa, ra_fild11 = Gemini-S58, ve_fild02 = Hardrock Mammoth, bif_fild01 = Elusive Salamander, um_fild04 = Dark Faceworm, yggdrasil01 = Amdarias, ve_fild04 = Violent Coelacanth, ve_fild07 = Geffen Fenrir, yuno_fild04 = 2nd Commander of Destruction, rockrdg1 = Sniper Cecil

In all, that’s 85 custom nightly MVP and Mini Boss spawns in and around all the cities. Also of note, the MVP and Mini bosses will act like permanent monster spawns for the duration of night (no tombstone, will respawn immediately). While a subtle change, this makes cities and connecting fields much more dangerous at night… and compensates for the decrease in challenge level from pre-renewal to renewal.

Custom Areas:

Doctor Schura’s Lab, (einbroch 278/120): The entrance to the Dark Dimension.

Schura’s lab is an area that exposes you to the Dark Dimension, a world taken over by undead monsters. New quests, hundreds of headgear, and access to 3 "Dark Cities"... Schura's Lab is full of excitement!

Frog Dungeon, (prt_fild00 220/37): An underground frog/toad spawning area.

Ever wonder where all the frogs and toads come from? Well, now you can find out by visiting the Frog Dungeon! It contains every Frog and Toad species in the game, except the Toad mini boss. There is even a frog Spawn exchanger that will pay you in Gold.

Poring Cave, (beach_dun 32/105): An underground cave filled with porings.

Check out the Poring Cave for a interesting new expansion to the Comodo dungeon system. This new cave has quite a large range of mobs.

WOE Schedule:

In the spirit of fairness, WOE & WOE SE has been disabled until the server population increases. I have consulted with several players and all agree this is the best thing to do. WOE will be turned back on as soon as larger guilds are on the server.

Vending Area:

The Official Vending Area for Division RO is the northeastern corner of Alberta, as shown in the below image. Alberta is exempt from the Curse of Night and is safe for vending. If you want to @autotrade, please do it here. This is also a good place for buying stores.

Looking for an item, but don’t want to look through all the vendors to find it? Check out the
Vending Search Tool!

Graph data is collected once per hour. It makes a list of unique users online, makes a second list of all offline users who connected in the last hour, and combines the two lists together. It then removes any duplicates (duplicates can be caused by users switching characters) and counts the results. This gives the most accurate representation of unique online users. Otherwise, you would need a very high sampling rate for accurate results.

Known Bugs:

So, Why Play Division RO?

What makes Division RO worth playing? Equality. On this server you’ll find no Cash Shop, no Donation Items, nothing that would separate one player from another (from a pay to win perspective). There is no favoritism on Division RO, unless it’s the kind bestowed by other players.
I like to think my take on the “mid rate” server is an interesting one. I have taken
special care to distribute custom NPCs throughout the game world and changed their name/appearance to best match their function. To that effect, I have also tried to re-enable or replace NPCs that have been disabled in official RO versions, when possible.

SRC edits and config changes to the server have allowed me to fine tune the gameplay to be casual, without feeling “too cheap”. Leveling is fast, but not so fast that you are level 75 before you have any idea what you are doing. It takes a minimum of 3 kills to level up, so that gives you at least some time to check your stats, test new skills, etc. There is also a general trend of trying to produce a pre-renewal “feel”.
        The
Day and Night system isn’t just for show. The 36min/24min solar/lunar cycle mimics a realistic pattern, which makes it more immersive. And nightly MVP & Mini Boss spawns in and around the cities adds real consequences to the appearance of night. There is a developing back story attached to the system, with NPCs and new locations.
        I
f MVP and boss hunting is your thing, then you’ll probably enjoy the modifications I’ve made to the server. Min-maxers will appreciate the relative ease of obtaining cards and equipment for testing new builds. With the jRO style EXP and drop mechanics, any level character can farm any level mob without penalty.
All server customizations that might lead to runaway inflation have been countered with some sort of zeny or time “sink” to
stabilize the economy. Zeny is easily obtained, and it is also easily spent or lost. Using the Vending Search Tool, players can instantly see who is selling a particular item and for the cheapest price. A buying shop search is planned.
Certain features (Malangdo Costume Enchants, Shadow Equipment quests, etc) are not currently implemented in the latest version of rAthena. So I have taken it upon myself to script
custom NPCs to serve as substitutes for these features. A wide variety of these missing gears and features (usually hand picked) are available on this server.
All the tools (registration, vendor search, server status, etc) are written from scratch in the form of Python based CGI scripts. It might not be the prettiest, but it’s functional and unique. Every other RO server site I’ve seen uses PHP
(why?).
        Finally, if you have become
accustomed to Cash Shop items… They too have been incorporated into the normal game world and can be purchased with zeny (or obtained through a simple quest). From Scroll Boxes to HD Elunium, it’s probably somewhere in world waiting to be purchased from an NPC.

Why NOT to play Division RO

Division RO is not meant to be a 100% up to date imitation of kRO. Some content is missing and many things are changed from their original forms. Some of this is intentional, some of it is simply because rAthena is a bit behind in terms of development.
        If you are looking for
kRO’s Mass Skills Balance, you won’t find that here. It’s my opinion that this isn’t a balance at all... rather, it’s a last ditch effort on the part of kRO to make a quick buck and/or drive players to move to one of their newer products. Most modifications are geared toward making the server feel more like pre-renewal, so the kRO Mass Skills Balance conflicts with this ideology.
        This server does not have
Star Emperor, Soul Reaper, or certain baby versions of expanded classes. The client exe is from 2016/12/28, and this precludes the addition of those classes. There are no plans to add them, changing the client is too disruptive.
This server does not have, nor will it ever have,
Discord. I created this server to improve my coding skills in Python, Javascript, and SQL. Using Discord cheats me out of learning some of those valuable skills. I have a Chat Room with persistent message history that I make continuous improvements on. This is “Discord” for this server.
If you want a server where all the
NPCs are in one central location (like every other private server out there), this is not it. The NPC placement is intended to feel more like an official server and encourage exploration.

Indefinite Client EXE Moratorium

The last client update resulted in a massive population drop and once regular players are no longer logging in. I think this is because there is no way to properly communicate these changes through the client, and this left players confused and/or frustrated. Most did not even try to check this page about the update. So from now on, there will be no more client EXE updates and all future changes will be client bug fixes (division.grf) and server side only. But don’t worry! The client has the latest GRF files from kRO, so there will be lots of future content and updates possible!
